Hey Dave,

We've heard that you've been sick this winter and you tell us this story about Davy Crockett !?

I'm glad to hear that "rumors of your death are greatly exaggerated" (paraphrased Mark Twain).

Hope you're feeling better!

Same thing happened to Davy Crockett once. He and a bunch of folks in his settlement in Tennessee went to check out some land in Alabama. Davy got deathy sick down there with malaria or something. He got so sick, he went into a coma and they thought he actually was dead. They didn't bury him, they just laid him out alongside the road someplace. Davy woke up, somehow managed to nurse himself back to health and walk all the way back to Tennessee. He got home, people came running up to him saying "Davy, we heard you were dead!" Davy says "I knowed that was a whopper of a lie the first time I heard it."

Hello, Dave.

The report of your demise was misconstrued. We are all grateful.

I also was the victim of mistaken identity as a teen-ager. At the high school that I attended, a John Bruecker passed away. He was a second-year high school student as I was, but I didn't know him very well.

When I attended his funeral, I got the craziest looks from those who thought I was dead.

Dave, keep living as long as you can. There would be no Elk River Forum or Elk River Harmonicas without you.

One day there was a notice on the outside marquee at Holtzheimer & Boch funeral home that one of the people laid out inside was one 'Joseph Leone'. Since this Joseph had committed suicide and was all blue, the coffin was closed. I understand that quite a few people turned out thinking it was me.

It wasn't. I was in the navy. I came home a few weeks later and a friend almost fainted when he saw me. He thought I was dead.

Reports of my death are largely untrue.

This actually happened to me once before. I used to work at scout camp all summer every summer when I was a teenager. Somebody read an obituary for David Payne, thought it was me, before long everybody thought I was dead. I actually arrived for a six-week stint at Camp Dilly's Mills just before the ORder of the Arrow Lodge was to be dedicated "The Dave Payne Memorial ORder of the Arrow Lodge." I wasn't dead then, either, actually. Wink

That's not Dave. Dave is big, has a full smiling face, is kinds cute and was born after 1968. 1968 would make him 42. I think Dave is 38.

Btw, Dave HAS been very sick of late. Caught a bug his kids brought home from school. I'm sure he will be ok with lots of fluids and rest.

Just hung up from talking with "our" Dave...he says that the reports of his demise are greatly exaggerated.  Cheesy   He is fine...his internet is temporarily down but he sends everyone his best and thanks you for your concern - all is well!  Grin

I don't think that the tribute video refers to Dave Payne of Elk River Harmonicas fame.

The dates referenced are 1968 - 2010. I think that Dave was born after 1968.

Christelle, je pense que Dave est ne apres 1968 (pardon mon francais).

Christelle and other Elk River Forum readers.

It would certainly be a shock to hear that Dave is dead, but I doubt it.

Who ever is administering this forum, Dave or other person, please answer Christelle's question.

The rest of us haven't heard anything, and we are hoping and praying that the answer is "no."

Dave replied to a post at 8:52:19 a.m. today, in the Elk River Forum.
